From Standard & Strange
GRÅBRODERN is a Swedish brand named with a Swedish word. Our best attempt at pronouncing it sounds something like "Groh-brud-urn," which isn't quite correct, but could probably be worse. The word translates to mean "gray brother," or "friar dressed in gray," but also refers to a neighborhood in the medieval town of Visby, on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. This is where the brand takes its inspiration, blending contemporary Japanese takes on Americana with traditional Baltic workwear. The Eke Trousers were an instant staff favorite here at S&S, being inspired by vintage wide leg Ivy League chinos but with a few unique (and subtle) modifications. We'll begin with the fit, which is a high-rise straight leg cut with a relaxed top block that produces a very clean vertical silhouette. There's plenty of room in the seat and top block as well, thanks to the double pleats on the front of each leg. The fit can also be modified with a single button above each cuff, converting these from a straight leg to a tapered one. They're made from a 100% cotton heavy Italian twill, clocking in at about 13.5oz, with a pronounced twill texture and a thick hand. It's got a really nice and sturdy drape, requiring no break-in to sit comfortably, it'll still continue to soften and relax with wear. It's definitely heavier than the vast majority of chino fabrics, hitting a weight more akin to mid-weight selvedge denims, giving these a more robust workwear vibe and great structure. Other details
