The Bamako hat is built from hand-dyed Malian fabric distinguished by its rhythmic resist patterning and saturated emerald tone. The circular geometry emerges through a traditional dye technique where areas of cloth are bound before immersion, allowing the pattern to reveal itself only after the dye process is complete. The result is organic symmetry—structured, yet never perfectly repeated. For BOBBYJOSEPH, textiles like this are the starting point. The design philosophy has always centered on letting remarkable fabrics lead the conversation while the silhouette provides a clear, quiet frame. Here, the classic six-panel “Anansi” hat becomes a canvas for a cloth with its own lineage and visual intelligence. Each piece is cut and sewn in a limited run, ensuring the subtle variations in dye and pattern remain intact. No two caps are identical.
